Any smokers here? I once came across this doctor (not p doc) and he randomly stated something that smoking is good for schizophrenia, it was just a random comment so ever since then I began wondering about it. I am a smoker and do enjoy this habit.

So there are a couple of things with smoking and sz....one it effectively reduces the concentration of antipsychotic used but probably what your doctor was talking about was the positive impact of smoking on cognition (thinking)...you can get that same effect from the gum though so smoking isn't necessary.

If you smoke you should try an alternative nicotine therapy like vaping if you're having trouble quitting. I'm going to be doing that really soon and hopefully wean myself off tobacco. It's well known that people with schizophrenia tend to be heavy smokers. That's why we need to find alternatives to smoking or quit smoking.
