Hi,
I am currently a university student and I was diagnosed with psychosis and mild schizophrenia a year ago. I was having symptoms and thoughts like others observing me, lecturers and seniors trying to track me down etc. My doctor prescribed me Amisulpride for more than a year now. Now I feel like I have lost my motivation for studies and my education. My marks are getting lower day by day. I don't have any desire to study or I can't concentrate on lectures. I afraid these will affect my future studies as well. And I feel hopeless feeling like I've lost everything after I was diagnosed with psychosis. Are those, symptoms of psychosis or the side effects of medications? Why am I getting intellectually decayed day by day? Please help me if you have any suggestions. Regards. |

Could it be depression triggered by the psychosis? Not familiar with your med does it make you sleepy? That can cause problems too. As far as what to do...if it is depression there are always more meds or you can try or therapy. Best of luck!

I have the same problem as u, and once I went off my meds my grade improved drastically. Although the delusions kinda took hold of me. I even got so paranoid i would leave in the middle of class cause i was scared. I lost all motivation on my meds. I really don't know what the right answer is for u. It's different for everyone. I hope u figure it out. Hug

Hi Loxer
![]() It could be a side effect of your medication or it could be depression as others have said. It's common to get depressed after psychosis, but also antipsychotics affect dopamine levels, and dopamine is involved in motivation and reward pathways in the brain. It's probably best to talk to your psychiatrist about what's going on. Do you see a Therapist you could talk to? Also just to let you know that I am studying at university and suffer with both depression and psychotic stuff, so feel free to stop by and post whenever you want because I understand, and we're a friendly bunch here at PC ![]() All the best, *Willow* |

Yes, I feel sleepy most of the time. And I feel like heavy burden in my head sometimes, and want to keep my head down.

Maybe you should talk with your doctor and they can reduce the dose of your med or switch to something more tolerable.
