Sometimes, I notice that people's faces will look like someone I know.

It could be someone walking by, then someone driving by, then someone on the tv etc but all of the people's faces look like a face I know like my mothers for example.

What is this??

I'm diagnosed schizoaffective btw.

Hi Russels,
I was told by a pdoc once that seeing the same face repeatedly is a symptom of psychosis. The reason it came up in my sessions w/ the pdoc is because I had a friend who was convinced that she was seeing me all over the place, even billboard advertisements. I never knew that this is a common symptom of psychosis until I asked my doc about it.
Thanks for this!

I learned something new today, I had no idea this was a symptom of psychosis. This has happened to me before too. I'm diagnosed with schizoaffective or schizophrenia depending on the pdoc.

I have the opposite--nobodies faces look familiar--even my parents and other people I know. I know who they are because of their voice, where they are at and what they are doing. Sometimes it even happens with pictures. Mine is a symptom of psychosis too.....D.

from wikipedia: Prosopagnosia, also called face blindness, is a disorder of face perception where the ability to recognize faces is impaired, while other aspects of visual processing (e.g., object discrimination) and intellectual functioning (e.g., decision making) remain intact.

I have difficulty recognizing faces too.

With me my own face varies. Sometimes, a lot of times i'm puzzled by my own face in the mirror and pictures. I feel like i'm looking at someone else and the person changes. And then it can move to my body like my skin and fingernails don't feel like my own or my legs feel the wrong size and i want to rip off my skin i feel so creepy awful. Maybe that's psychosis too?

This is good information.

And it's interesting because they use this tactic in films and t.v. a lot to show distress.
