Thanks Fowler and welcome to Pc.

What do you think about her opinion that voices are a reminder that we need to look deeper within ourselves and really examine our feelings that we may be suppressing.

I believe that unresolved feelings and opressed / repressed emotions are the root of my symptoms.

I think that there are so many different reasons why people get sick and that not all of it is due to suppression although that is common---I never had any kind of abuse or mistreatment that caused mine, it was pure stress. But in a sense there was some suppression of my basic needs---positive contact with humanity, time to relax that sort of thing. I will say though that I experienced a new element to my mind called right brain that thought it was being completely blocked. It likes to do weird stuff like play with high bounce balls or buy my little ponies---childish stuff I should have left behind long ago. Basically I've learned to let it do some stuff as long as its not harmful. Right brain is my more emotional and spiritual side and its a lot of fun---I'm trying my best not to suppress it entirely. It is the part of my mind that is way into shamanism or playing the ukelele or whatever is joyous in my life aside from work. Left brain is purely content to read the adventures of others in whatever fantasy novel I might be reading.

Thanks for sharing. I love hearing stories of recovery and hope. It made me feel a lot better about my future, especially my studies.

Psychiatrists should ask what happened to you rather than what is wrong with you, especially since life experiences influence the manifestation of a mental illness.

I don't think psychosis is always caused by abuse. My case wasn't. Other events that leave an indelible mark can certainly contribute to the illness.

I want to say more, but I will just leave it at that for now.
