My spouse has been my rep-payee for my SSI and now I am wanting to get him off as Rep and take care of my own money. Has anyone ever had a rep- payee and then had then taken off with out having to have another? It will be my second try... my Pdoc has to sign a letter stating that I can take care of my own money, and I do not see her again till feb. so I don't know how she will make this determination.

frustrated with it all.

I'm on the opposite side of the fence. I want a payee. I can't handle my money, but my PDoc said they have a form to fill out that will help me get a payee. I want my dad to do it even though we are in different states. Not sure how that will be. Sorry I couldn't be any help.

I wish I had an answer for you too. I handled my son's money informally while he was in the worst of his last episode. He just withdrew most of his money each month and gave it to me to pay his bills and so forth. That lasted about 6 months, until he was able to take care of things himself.

The only experience I've heard about is when my sister rented her house to a woman on disability. Her sister was rep payee, and the first month she lived there, the sister suddenly decided she didn't want to do it anymore. SS said the woman had to have a rep payee, so my sister offered to do it.

I hope someone with more relevant info responses to your question.
