My psych nurse has diagnosed me with it. I looked it up but I don't really understand it. Can anyone explain it in layman's terms?

i have this diagnosis . NOS means not otherwise specified which basically means u dont fit into any of the other psychotic spectrum disorders. but u have psychotic episodes like hallucinations and delusions. its basically a catch all for what they dont really know what it is so it gets tagged with a NOS on it

I have mood disorder NOS but once my psychiatrist put down psychotic disorder NOS on the insurance form. I guess this is because I am in between, do I have a mood disorder with psychotic features or a psychotic disorder with mood disturbances...who knows. I know how disconcerting it can be when you don't fit into a set diagnosis. I know, these diagnoses don't really tell much about your individual disorder. Hang in there sunshine

I got this diagnosis too, and I still don't understand why. I meet all the criteria for schizophrenia. I don't see what about me doesn't fit with that Dx...

When I was first hospitalized I got this dx, it meant I was experiencing psychosis but they hadn't seen me for long enough to determine where I fit as far as diagnostic categories went. My diagnosis has changed a lot over the years. I've been (mis) diagnosed with almost everything you can think of in the past eight years. Now my dx is back to schizophrenia again which I think is right. All the other stuff to me is complete ********.

I had this diagnosis in the hospital when the doctor said I didn't have symptoms for long enough to be diagnosed with Schizophrenia. He said I was experiencing Schizophrenia symptoms but was too young to be diagnosed with the disorder. I was later diagnosed with Schizoaffective disorder.
