For several years I've had this weird thing where either in the morning when I wake up, or right when I'm about to fall asleep, I sometimes hallucinate a paragraph of sentences made of random mixed together words, and I always begin reading them in a whisper voice. It never makes any sense, and I end up forgetting what I said right away. I can't even be sure if they're words, but it's definitely happening while I'm still awake.

It's like a clipped out section from a newspaper that's inside my eyes. What does this mean? Is this psychosis, or just a recurrent dream that happens when I'm half awake (but never fully asleep or fully awake)?

I was diagnosed bipolar 1 but they changed it to mood disorder nos.

You have no idea how amazed I am to see this post. I didn't bother telling this to anyone because they wouldn't understand what I'm talking about because this is exactly what happens to me sometimes when I wake up. I'll be waking up and reading a ******* imaginary nonsensical newspaper/text xD. The words are completely random but it makes sense sometimes so I get curious and I think the longest that I read it was around 30 or more seconds until it fades away. Trust me this isn't psychosis. It might not be common but it's a hypnopompic hallucination (Hallucination when waking up) which is normal.

Sometimes I even get complete word salad when waking up because well.. I'm still kind of asleep so whoever is waking up just has to wait or laugh what ever.

Don't take my word though. It could be a sign of psychosis but I hear and/or see/feel things that aren't there most of the times I wake up and I only need low dose antipsychotics. Just this morning, I was yelling at my sister and telling her to pick up the phone because she wouldn't answer it. She faded away..

If this only happens when transitioning to or from sleep you are fine...these are known as hypnogogic and hypnopompic hallucinations and they do not correlate with mental health....no worries.

Good to know. I looked up those terms on Wikipedia and it seems to fit.

Although I had a slight fear that this lump behind my left ear is an alien implant and these groggy mumblings are actually my mind being reprogrammed. Or maybe I'm possessed.

I'll just stick with what you guys said.

If you just have a slight fear its not a delusion----delusions you believe with absolutely certainly and are rarely dissuaded by anyone telling you otherwise. If someone showed you an X-ray of the lump you might think it wasn't really your X-ray or some other kind of trick....but that the implant was really still there.

Well I wouldn't be able to dismiss the possibility that everything and everyone around me is being influenced to hide the truth. The computer that displays the x ray may be tampered with, or maybe the doctor's thoughts are being manipulated because the aliens don't want him to suspect anything.

This angst only set in last night when I made a connection to the movie Dark skies (about aliens, implants, abductions, etc), which I saw several weeks back. It just suddenly hit me.

I don't think it's a delusion because I'm the never say never type where I like to keep an open mind, but can still admit things are probably impossible.

I had a delusional phase that lasted several months early last year, and the thoughts I was having would not permit me to tell anyone, so it went unrecognized/undiagnosed. There's also low level anxiety about hidden cameras/being watched, but oh well. I had a 4 hour psych eval a month ago that came up with nothing.

____

oh, and I forgot to mention I already had the lump checked out. They said it's a lymph node that never went back to normal size after swelling up during an infection I had sometime in the past.

I also agree with the other posters. This is definitely due to falling asleep or waking up. It is normal for thoughts to wonder off during these times. Auditory and visual hallucinations can also occur.

i used to get this alot and i was told it was probably due to my brain transitioning from awake to asleep. It seems to have gone away for now so i don't know if it naturally stopped or it was the meds but i used to have random words being made in my head that aren't even real words.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
