Schizophrenia/Paranoid type.
Depression
Dissociative disorder.

...the other 2 are the lower in me and less severe my main issue is the paranoid schizophrenia according to my doc.I get to see a therapist soon though maybe they will help me out with some pointers of living my life without snapping.I also get to take these wonderful new medications with lovely side effects that can cause all sorts of issues that I really dont need to deal with right now.I am so upset about this its almost like my chance of a normal life is over tbh I dont even want to take these meds.just sat there and cried all night long after the diagnosis.almost felt like giving up one time but I cant I have to just struggle forward and make the best of things.what in the world should I do?how can I overcome this?because this diagnosis has floored me.

How long have you been hearing voices because they shouldn't dx you with sz for six months so it's strange to me you're not even on meds yet...

Anyway early treatment with meds plus appropriate therapy can actually help you get better. I was on meds for 2.5 years and finally got off symptom free 6 months ago. While this doesn't work for every one....there is a 25% success rate in the first couple of years...

It's also very important not to stop taking the AP abruptly while you are on it as it will likely trigger a relapse just because of how the drug works....you have to taper off. Typically the earliest you'd want to try this is six months symptom free.

OK the latest studies are suggesting that you get the best outcomes the sooner you get into treatment and take the meds---so why go to the doctor if you didn't want to get meds? I mean if you were OK with hearing the voices forever and the possibility with them getting worse and more untreatable over time why even go to the doc? The name of what you have is not important and it won't change your diagnosis if you don't take the meds. Basically its like this...you can keep doing whatever you were doing or if you're not completely happy with that you can try something else---ie the meds. You don't have to take them forever, just try them and see if they help...if not then you know they aren't worth taking...if so stay on them the directed amount of time and then taper off with assistance...

If you had a headache and someone gave you a tylenol....you have the option of taking tylenol or not but at least for me once I found that tylenol was effective in treating headaches I was very happy to have that as an option. Same thing...its about having options...

Thanks.I really did not want to see a pdoc at first I did not think anything was really wrong with me at all.but my mother made me see one so now I am stuck with all of this it just feels like a heavy burden on my shoulders but I guess it wont get any better with me rebelling against taking the meds.

For me the meds were actually pretty amazing---I had constant hallucinations and they were immediately cut in half once we found the right med. It was such a relief to be able to turn them off and focus again and sleep again. So I went through and did what the docs wanted etc and now I'm symptom free and off meds for 6 months and they think it won't happen again. Best possible outcome...supposedly the sooner you get treatment the better your chances of a full recovery.

Wow I hope I can have a successful outcome like you have experienced.I will try to go along with this it just seems so overwhelming.I do want to recover from this though I dont want to be stuck with these problems for life.

Dissociative disorder is often confused with schizophrenia. If I were you I would research each diagnosis and get a second opinion (just to be sure).
