Am I the only one who gets these?I hallucinate that I see bugs crawling on the ground that arent there and I see bugs flying around sometimes that arent real and sometimes I even hallucinate feeling bugs on my skin and I get paranoid they are all over me or are in my hair.its embarrassing because I have tried to swat at a few or thought there were bugs on me and I scared or confused others around me.any tips on how I can ignore these hallucinations?

So I've never had those thank god but I just wanted to warn you they are more commonly associated with drug abuse than sz....here is a ref...

It's not a 100% correlation but I wanted to throw that out there because there is a chance that a doc is going to respond differently because people don't always disclose substance abuse so were it me I might focus on other hallucinations unless I was actually using substances in which case I would be honest and get that treated(ie it actually has a better prognosis than sz). The other part of my rationale for posting that was its also a very common hallucination, enough so that there are papers written on it. Did not in any way mean to imply that it couldn't be part of sz----just less typical for sz than drug use...

No not at all...its just pdocs make all sorts of assumptions based on the type of hallucination(ie medical vs psych vs malingering) and they are often wrong but don't know it because they generally don't ask everyone the question like we do here. I mean do you hallucinate bugs isn't part of the DSM so they never ask but if someone brings it up one day it may be that 99% of people have bug hallucinations but this one person randomly mentions it for the first time so they think its rare because they never heard of it before. Some hallucinations can be strong indicators of other conditions like seizures etc so they actually do consider the content. I just wanted to mention the association because it may impact treatment....

No I dont take any drugs and I never really told my pdoc about those hallucinations so I am guessing I shouldnt tell them about this?I dont want them to get the wrong opinion of me or misjudge me.

It's possible he's never even heard of those studies as they aren't part of the DSM but if you are having other visual hallucinations I might mention those preferentially. All in all its best to have an open and honest relationship but the only thing with greater stigma than psychosis tends to be drug use so you know I personally knowing this would probably not mention it if there are other hallucinations of the same class(visual) that I could use instead.

Thank you for the advice!these bug hallucinations are just weird they arent so much worth mentioning I only posted to find out who else had these weird hallucinations so theres not much of a reason to tell my pdoc.I should really just tell them about the more serious ones where I see blood everywhere this one time I thought my shower was pouring out blood and there was blood all over my food and on the floor but the hallucinations went away when I covered my eyes and reopened them like most of the hallucinations go.that is one of my more scary ones.I also see horrible looking creatures and shadow people.

sometimes I even hear bugs flying while I see them those are the worst ones because they are so real.I remember hallucinating these beetles were flying around my head I could both hear them and see them and I was swatting at them and ran off and then when I turned around to look back there was nothing there.
