Stanford researcher: Hallucinatory 'voices' shaped by local culture

I thought this was a really interesting article....depending on how your relate to other people in society etc it shapes your voices pretty dramatically....people in Africa/India have more of a team/family oriented approach and see voices as advising etc where as in the US they are more violent or negative....the article suggests it's because we place such a high priority on independence....I think it's something interesting to consider and may help us make things more pleasant through some sort of therapy even in cases where the voices can't be entirely eliminated...

My voices were mostly positive...I was part of a team of scientists and healers working on curing disease.....it may be because I routinely work within a team based framework....I really don't know....

I did have the occasional bad one though...

This is part of the team framework...the people in other countries are having that same voice but it's like you need to sweep the floor or do the dishes or something else benign....

I clearly had some terrible ones but they were not recurrent and were not the people that I knew or the newly defined personalities that had specific roles ie computers and nutrition...

my voices are usually always bad. sometimes they are just commenting on what im doing or saying random things. but usually they are telling me awful things like to strangle my cat or kill myself. call me names. etc. it can get scary.
