Anyone here with genuine schiz issues got into trouble with the cops before? I had a few times, retaliated violently at my neighbor for being such a prick and they called the cops, they took down my name and personal details and i was told to sign a warning letter for certain offenses, 1 of which, i didnt committed at all.

1 time was more serious than the others because i was almost put in jail but the cops gave a choice between jail or hospital so i chose hospital.

I don't have schz issues but I have had psychosis. I was arrested on 3 occasions I believe and brought to the station to see a doctor and then brought to hospital. One of those times they handcuffed me which was completely unnecessary, besides that I was treated very well. The cops over here are fairly well trained when it comes to dealing with mental illness in people.

My therapist at the time called the cops on me while I was in her office for being a danger to myself, the sheriff department came and went through my purse then issued a citation (MIW) Mental something warrant and took me to the hospital. I'm glad they gave me the option of going voluntarily with them without handcuffs on. He kept talking to me on the way there and said maybe I should go to church, it could be because I don't have God in my life that I have these problems, etc. I was like okay then, yeah sure that's it and just sat in the back seat while we drove for 45 minutes.

good god guys...

one time when the cops picked me up for being suicidal they treated me like a criminal and told me to put my hands up and then behind my back. then they said "are you gonna act stupid?" i said "no".

either way - everytime i get picked up by the cops i get put in handcuffs.

I can't imagine US cops being very caring. Not after all the **** we hear about on the news over here. I'm sure they're not all bad but I wouldn't trust them for a second.
Thanks for this!

There's some really good cops, I'm originally from New York, up there they're better trained to deal with mental illness.

I live in a small rural town in Kentucky now and they are very bad, they barely have any training to begin with, let alone training to deal with mental illness.

I've had the police called on me. They were awful to me yelling and saying that I had an 'attitude' when they asked if I had a knife and all I said was 'no I'm not like that'. It was quite distressing.

Most cops here aren't trained to handle mental health issues. In Florida there is a 40 hour CIT course to train police and security officers, but it's not mandatory, so most are not trained.

No. I'm terrified of cops in America. Here's an article listening 14 people with mental illness getting shot dead by the police. The most recent mental health cop shooting was a mom who called on her schizophrenic son and all he was doing was holding a red broom and now he's dead. The mentally ill get killed off like "scum" in their eyes, IMO.

Never had the police or trouble with them.
I've come close a few times. Where i've been in situations where i've said things that you shouldn't really say to others. It just happens, cant help it. When in a situation that is stressful etc sometimes bad things come out.
