Is it true that If you know a voice isn't real (even if u hear it externally) does that mean it's not a 'true' hallucination? is it a psuedohallucination? Just wandering thanks

good question! I'm gonna go with it's still a hallucination. I believe the difference your referring to is if your delusional or not, the believing it's real part. I still consider hallucinations as hallucinations. Of course I could be wrong and just delusional at the moment
Thanks for this!

No. After 7 years of 24/7 hallucinations (voices mainly), I've learned that they aren't real but it doesn't stop them or the feelings they can invoke when I listen.

I think what you're describing is called insight and not pseudohallucination. If I'm remembering right pseudohallucination was when the voices were coming from inside your head rather than you were hearing them as if from outside.

I think I heard that too! No I mean I read that. I actually get both, inside and outside. Inside sounds like a radio or television or speaker in my head! Nothing like just thoughts or talking in your mind. It sounds real! I can only compare it to ringing in the ears except it's talking. Just as annoying really.

When mine were at their worst it was like a detuned radio playing in my ears and inside my head it was unbearable, i've had it all my life, so the ability to identify a hallucination as a hallucination doesn't make it any less of a hallucination.
I'm lucky now as I only have one voice.

I've had the radio thing before. It usually happens when I'm really tired and starts with a loud crack! sound that can be so loud and real sounding it startles and makes me jump. Then it sounds like radio that's turned down so low I can never actually hear what's being said.

It hasn't happened for a while and can't remember if it sounded like it was inside or outside my head. I've never actually heard voices talking to me though.

When I put my fingers tightly in my ears or when I put a noise-cancelling headset on ( like a Bose or similar) my voices disappear pretty much, which makes me think they are externally not internally generated. If they are externally generated they are real not delusional in my opinion. What is your experience if you tightly close off your ears?

Hallucination is just a false sensory perception without any sort of external stimulus, doesn't matter if you think it's real or not.
