I am just trying to figure out what i should expect... I am pretty new to being on AP drugs, and it doesn't really fix everything for me... I still hallucinate from time to time. (A LOT less frequently than I did while I was off medications) I still have paranoid thinking/thoughts... And most of my delusions are gone- Or at least, I am better able to recognize what is a delusion and what is not. (EX: My mind still tells me people are spying on me through mirrors/cameras, and my mind still thinks I am a lizard, but I am mostly able to tell myself that those things are not real..or at least that other people tell me that they aren't real. (sorry if this is confusing its difficult to explain.) ) I am mainly glad that I hardly ever hear the voices anymore... Anyway, what all do meds fix for you (if your comfortable sharing)?

For me they fix 99.9%. I only rarely get a Hallucination or something mildly delusional.

I'm really not sure how much medication helps. The only thing I can say for sure is my paranoia & delusions are essentially gone now but as for the voices, although they aren't as bad I'm not sure that isn't due to a natural reduction of my symptoms rather than the meds. There were sure times before I was on meds when my voices were akin to what they are now but I suppose it's fair to say I've not had as many bad days with them since going on meds.

Meds certainly don't cure everything for most people I reckon but they do seem to at least lessen the severity in most depending on if you are on the right meds at the right dose. It varies a lot from person to person.

I still hallucinate, auditory and visually, visually at least a few times a day, more so at night and auditory is constant.
And i take 600mg of seroquel. Negative symptoms are as worse as they were when I was diagnosed and no ap seems to have helped that.
Can live with the hallucinations, they don't bother me too much but negative symptoms are a pain in the rear.
I guess everyones different though and there are APs out there that really will help just depends on the person i guess.

I take Zyprexa and Seroquel. The Zyprexa I've been taking for a year and I just started the Seroquel. I would say that the Zyprexa has absolutely helped my delusions though I don't notice much difference in the paranoia but with the delusions lessened it's not as intense. The voice & visual hallucinations are the same.

i was on abilify first which did not help any of my symptoms (even like, depression)
then i was switched to risperdal which did help especially at first, with my paranoia. it helped me feel less disorganized with my thinking. didn't really help with my "delusions" though, in any substantial way.
i was switched a week ago to geodon (bc she wanted to raise my dose of risperdal but said it would bring back a certain unwanted side effect that i got early on when taking it). i can already feel myself slipping backwards though
i have yet to have a real "good" experience with them yet. i do not hallucinate

I have hallucinations and all kinds of "fun" things 24/7. Meds don't do anything at all for me except the only treatment resistant one but 1 out of 10 people have seizures and you have to get a blood test weekly the first 6 months and every other week the next 6 months after the first to make sure your white cell count isn't dangerously low.

Not much. I was being put on seroquel, zyprexa, risperdal, haloperidol, stelazine, chlopromazine, sulpiride. All gave me side effects which i couldnt tolerate. Now i am on 200mg solian, side effects wise... none yet but paranoia, anger and agitation still exist.

Medication does wonders for my thought disorganization. It helps the voices be much softer too though I still hear them fairly often. Helps my delusions like 60%, I'm still pretty paranoid a lot of the time(hence my frequent disappearing acts for days at a time on here, I just get too paranoid to post).

My catatonia is helped by benzos A LOT.

This is a really good thread idea. It's interesting to see what meds do and don't do for different people.

clozapine has worked wonders at first, same with risperdal and others ive been on, voices came back over time. but i was getting insane loud stuff, and thats stayed gone. risperdal made them more insane and myself along with them.

i attribute paranoia to a false feeling and disregard if i feel it. i usually cope by making music, smoking a cigarrette, painting, or having someone come over and talk.

Mine work great for paranoia, I don't even remember what it was like to have paranoid delusions. They also keep my mood stable, I haven't had any manic episodes or depressive episodes.

I'm on the following meds:
Invega Sustenna 117IM once a month
Zyprexa 5mg
Depakote 750mg
Paxil 50mg
Hydroxyzine 50mg x 3
Trazodone 100mg prn
