so if your looking to quiet the voices, i came up with a possible solution.

first, when your hearing distressing voices..imagine that there is a messy twist of gold wire wound with nails pointing in random directions. you should both feel them in your brain and visualize them too.

I find any sort of visualization to be helpful in blocking them, the more complicated the better, ideally involving movement of the components....I picture spinning rings nested within one another. My pdoc thinks it's anything that keeps your mind engaged.

That is brilliant, you guys. It makes complete sense that this would help.

But then don't the images themselves become part of the problem? That's what happens to me, anyway. Do others experience it?

i call that "work-arounds" where the voices get around the block. Ive actually made a gold wired nail block as i described above. first put it on the south wall, then moved to the east wall, they slowly got around it, then moved it oddly enough to the toilet.
i heard a voice say "im shrinking", so far not a peep other than that.

I wouldn't think so. The images they are talking about are their own creation and subject to their own mental manipulation. Being self-created, the images they are talking about replace and push out any unwelcome images or sounds that invade their minds. I think it's brilliant and beautiful!

It sounds like a beautiful idea to me. It helps, the way you described it...that the images are their own creation. I don't know why my mind tends to build on delusions. Kind of like layers. It's too noisy, too busy. Other people don't tend toward that? Now I feel really weird

Don't feel weird it's a little bit different for everyone, there are probably others who can relate....

Maybe it's something that can be developed? Like... practiced? And it's SometimesP and Insilence that described doing it, so they might have ideas? It seems to be something that you deliberately come up with. I'm guessing that you'd have to come up with something to visualize and practice getting it started - before you need it. It sounds like an 'interrupter' though. A choice to interrupt the frightening delusion by visualizing the complex image you came up with. I hope I'm describing that right, SometimesP

Thank you, SometimesP and Crescent Moon. The idea of practice...that's interesting.

If anyone has any more thoughts about this, I'd sure appreciate if you share them. I feel like this idea has so much potential, yet I fear trying it & starting off a bunch of intrusive mind stuff.

For example, you know the old trick for falling asleep - 'counting sheep'? Whenever I try to count sheep the sheep turn weird and start out being different colors, then they get creepy, and if I keep going (I usually try to stop at that point!), the sheep become menacing in certain ways. In real life, I like sheep just fine - it's just the images in my mind that frighten me so much.

ok, i tested this idea for about 10-12 hours, it didnt help for long. BUT..it gave me a clue that im on the right track. the nails idea was from a theory that i could draw the energy out of me that is causing me to hear the voices. you can make a small electro-magnet by wrapping copper around a nail and hooking up a battery. well its a bad idea to do this. i took all the nails and put them back and hid the gold wire, leaving the silver/copper winds around the faucets. voices instantly got quiet again.

so in my view they adjust to conditions in the environment adapting a energy field to a reaction of some kind along the skull bone and spine..just a theory still.

im going to try memory foam next over high gauss areas on the walls.

I'd say it has to be engaging rather than boring like counting sheep. The other one I use involves celtic knots---with movement as in imagining how they might be created with the strands moving---it's really an impossible puzzle but it takes enough concentration that it breaks the auditory hallucinations---I don't know if it would work with visuals.
