My therapist told me that the way it works is hallucinations, both auditory and visual, or based on fears we already had/have. So she gave the example of how what we fear when we are awake will appear in our dreams as nightmares.

Hallucinations are very new for me, newer than my delusions. I only have auditory, and not very often. It seems they only occur when my haldol injection is wearing off. But she was telling me this because I was skeptical (and still am skeptical) that they are hallucinations. I have a fear of the supernatural, specifically demons...and I am becoming so paranoid that something is trying to possess me if it hasn't already. I have been hearing some scary sounds that further convince me of this.

I told her that I always thought auditory hallucinations manifested itself with hearing voices, and I don't hear any voices. So I must not be hallucinating. She said it's different for everyone.

So I'm wondering two things:
1) Are your hallucinations based off of things you were already afraid of before you ever started hallucinating...or are they just random and unrelated to any of your own life experiences?

2) What kind of auditory hallucinations do you experience...voices, sounds, music, etc? For example, I have heard a child laughing, something moving around and banging on my closet door, something knocking that sounded like it was coming from the basement, something moving around in my trashcan even though there was nothing in there, notes from a song that I am already afraid of, and some other sounds....

I'm trying to figure out if I'm really hallucinating or if something is haunting me.

She is right. Auditory hallucinations although typically voices can involve other noises/music too. I believe oftentimes that simples noises may be a precursor to hearing voices.

I think here you are touching on the subject of delusions, in other words what you perceive to be the source of your auditory hallucinations. Delusions I had in relation to mine were that people were knocking on my door/walls & for my voices that they were caused by an implant in my ear. I wouldn't have said that the root of those was anything to do with my fears before I started hallucinating.

As above, I've mostly been plagued by voices however I have also heard knocking sounds, buzzing sounds & once whilst falling asleep music.

Take it from me, you are hallucinating. Nothing is haunting you that is just a delusion.

Thanks for you input! I guess I mean, I have always been afraid of demons in particular, and so she asked me this...have I always been afraid? And when I said yes she said that hallucinations are based off of that. But I think I know what you're saying. That my delusion could be the way I'm interpreting what I'm experiencing (noises) to be a demon trying to possess me.

In the past, I only had delusions. But that is a pretty recent thing for me, too. My delusions at their worst had a demonic-theme as well, so it might not just be coincidence.

my voices call me out by my full name, including my nickname. they tell me they want me to get out of everywhere i go. they put me through all kinds of scenarios, aliens, angels, god, devil, time travel, evil machines.

visual things ive seen is a monster, people appear and dissapear. the sun moving quickly, the moon getting closer to earth.

they would hit my car with something that choked it, they drained my gas without any hoses (energy).

my dad has heard two instances of the voices but doesnt believe it was. a friend heard my name through their stomach, i did too.

my conclusion..its a deception..there are no demons, or whatever but there is a mind reading predictive technology being used.

mine only stop with meds and mental force.

I have been hearing a lot of random noises that aren't real because they have no logical explanation. I am hoping it doesn't get worse and turn into music or voices. My previous psychosis revolved around music, so it is possible it could evolve into hearing music.
