When I think back, my paranoia started around age 9. I didn't notice any hallucinations until around 13.

I was 30 when the clock struck 12. I was suppose to get a scholarship from the philosophy department, but after... well, let's just call it a mess.

This is interesting. My psychiatrist told me that most people who suffer from psychosis will start experiencing symptoms by their teens. They told me that my symptoms were probably due to something else, because I didn't experience any symptoms as a child. So I'm guessing my psych was wrong? They've said many ridiculous things in the past, so I won't be surprised if this was another one of them.

It's more common for it to happen at a younger age and generally you are considered extremely rare if you have an onset after 40. I know I had a complete medical workup to rule that stuff out....CAT scan (or you can get an MRI) and EEG as well as thyroid check.

Typical age on onset for schizophrenia is between 16-30, with males generally developing it a few years earlier than females.

Here's a psych central article on it: Schizophrenia Usually Strikes First in Young Adults

16 years young. The year prior was the best year I've ever had... so far. The following year (16) I spent the majority in various hospitals across the UK and Ireland. Not fun.

Thank you. I'm in my twenties, so I was wondering.. what's considered "younger age"?

My main problem (not sure if it's part of sz) started when I was around 6 or 7. The hallucinations and delusion of the stalker started when I was between 49 to 51.

I started experiencing symptoms when I was 17,
But they were really mild then. They got way worse when I was 18/19.

Males statistically start having issues in late teens/early twenties, for women: late 20's.

My first psychotic episode was when I was 26 years old. Then I had a two year gap with no symptoms other than hypomania and mania (but no psychosis). This year the psychosis came back and worse...I'm almost 29 years old now. Hallucinations just started since last month, delusions started in June. So it's all very new for me.

Early childhood for me too. I used to visually and auditorally (is that a word?) hallucinate a monkey outside my closet door when I was 3 and 4 years old. That was the first things that happened, though I did not see a psychiatrist until I was 18.

Paranoia also started young. I can remember being paranoid in the fourth grade after I left Montessori and went into regular school. It's been constant since then (I'm turning 45 in December).
