My best friend lives an hour away from me. We've never met but have made plans to do so in a few weeks. We've been besties since i was 13, so for 5 years. For 5 years he's been my rock through depression, anxiety, ptsd, epilepsy. And i've been his through bipolar, depression, anxiety, ptsd.
Only a few days ago, he told me about his schizophrenia, that he's been living with for a very long time. He hasnt gotten any treatment for it, or told anyone else. I know how to be caring towards him. Even though it scares me, i dont let it show and always try and make him understand that i love him anyway. But i am worried that he isnt getting help. I know i cant force him, i can only encourage him. But how do i that in a way that doesnt make him feel cornered? How do i do that in a way that shows that i accept him and love him? Bipolar and schizophrenia are very similar....is he taking meds for the bipolar? Also bipolar can cause transient symptoms of schizophrenia like hallucinations without it actually being schizophrenia. Is he getting help for any of his conditions or are they self diagnosed?

You don't really know somebody you met online until you really know them in person. This sounds a little concerning to me. Please be careful. Have you ever seen this guy via Skype or similar?

I appreciate your concern and I insisted on skyping with him the moment we got close, and have spoken to him on the phone several times. I am certain that he is who he says he is, but I am also being careful and have asked my older brother to accompany me when I do meet him

Antipsychotics are often used to treat bipolar so he may already be receiving the only medical treatment available anyway.....

Give him a chance to fully trust you, and never mess it up. That's from my own perspective atleast.. I need somebody like that.
