I read (paraphrase) this forum is for people with sz or other psychosis and family members, loved ones. My concern is for a woman friend who hears voices and diagnosed with schizophrenia. Am I as a supporter of a friend permitted to post in this forum. I promise to obey what you say about this.

Thanks so much for replying and letting me post. Sorry I didn't reply until now. I've been dealing with heavy duty energy issues. IOW I sleep a lot. Thinking of telling my primary It might be my diabetes or my depression. Been feeling severely down lately. Not to worry I'm not suicidal. It is effecting my energy level. Thanks for letting me post. My woman friend is on a new psych med. She still hears the voices but it doesn't bother her as much. Do you consider that progress. I kind of do since she's happier now.

You're totally welcome here! We have different threads like general, safe place, happy cute pictures, etc. You don't have to apologize! I think most of us sleep a lot. Antipsychotics can be very sedating. I would talk to your doctor. I don't know anything about diabetes but that definitely sounds like depression to me. And yes! The meds are helping her. The longer she stays on the less chance you have a relapse. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You are welcome to post here. Over the years we have had many friends and family of those with schizophrenia come here to ask questions and try to get a better understanding of their loved ones and what they go through.

As for your other question, hearing voices less often can be considered progress, but this is a long term illness and it is a difficult road with very few definitive answers. It usually takes years for doctors to figure out good medication combinations because every body reacts differently. Often the biggest challenge is figuring out what side effects are worth it given the benefits of the meds. Many people opt to live with more symptoms and less medication but for many, including myself, the symptoms get worse with age and there comes a point where medication can mean the difference between life and death.
