How does one know when or if there going thru a delusion or hallucination like what counts as one is hearing something completely different than what someone says when they speak to you one? Like someone claims they said take the trash out bUT I know they said your going to he'll ......what are common negative symptoms last time I went to my drug counselers because I got really bad on herion I talked to her about the fact that I had been having trouble feeling like I was numb she kept telling me I was depressed even though I said I wasnt I just felt like I was hollowed out with a ice cream scoop
Thanks for this!

That is a great question! I don't know the answer myself, but I am so glad you posed the question. I have tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and a slight hearing loss too. Every day several times a day, people say things to me and I'm like.......WHAT? I assemble the sounds i heard into words that match the sounds and it usually makes no sense, or is arbitrary to the situation. The second time they say it it makes sense, and I hear it better. I have been thinking it was my tinnitus getting worse causing it, but i have also had worse mental states tracking parallel to this phenomena. You got me thinking now, about if this is yet another symptom?

That sounds like a hallucination to me although I always heard them without a person even being there they never swapped out. The best way to know is to ask your psychiatrist. Negative symptoms pretty much mirror the negative symptoms in depression.

If other people don't see or don't hear them it means they think it doesn't is real but it doesn't mean is not real for you.

For example, it's seems few people have contact with entities so most of people think they aren't real, but I do. The point is knowing what other people think to don't get in troubles.

I had this happen once, but instead of talking I heard yelling, and it got progressively scarier, so anything they said or did seemed like an attack..even when they were apparently telling me to calm down cause I had started panicking (they grabbed my wrist to get me to stop) I only realized it after I had busted my knee open from falling while running away.

For me I know I'm hearing things if I'm hearing a lot of voices and I'm all alone and there's logically no source of the noise. Also I have a tendency of hallucinating animals and insects, which if I'm outside I have trouble differentiating but if I'm inside and see 1000 spiders dancing around I can be pretty sure it's not real or if I'm outside and see unlikely animals like polar bears it's also likely a hallucination. Delusions are more tricky....

Poke it with a stick. If it jiggles about it's real if it turns into God; it's not real.

My vision focuses entirely on the hallucinated object and everything else blurs.
