Can internal voices (ie: the kind that are in your head rather than being heard from outside) be a part of psychosis?
I have had these internal voices for a long time (a long with external voices) but I have never ever mentioned it to any of my mental health professionals as I thought they were normal... But I've just come across something about people with psychosis hearing internal voices AS WELL as external ones. And it's making me wonder if I should mention them to my psychiatrist? The frequency of my external voices vary, but these internal voices are present all day every day. They are separate from my thoughts and I do not control them... They talk about me and say horrible things about myself and others. I just want to know if this is normal or a part of my psychotic symptoms? |

This scares me because if it's a part of my psychosis then for years my symptoms have been worse than me or any of the doctors/therapists etc have realised... I'm so confused right now

Definitely talk to your doc about this but if the voices weren't bothering you before don't give them more power now that you know its a symptom.

I will mention it next time I see my psychiatrist... They do cause me problems but the things they say are pretty much the same as the external ones, so I only ever mention the external ones. Thanks for the help ![]() |
