I'm getting ready to make an appointment with a psychiatrist but it's been years since I've seen one. I'm afraid when I go they'll report everything I say to the government and put me away (I know this isn't true, but it's hard to get past). Does anyone have advice for first appointments?

Thanks for this!

The Skeezyks hasn't seen his pdoc in just short of a year. I see him once a year, just to keep my foot in the door, so to speak. My annual appointment is tomorrow. I'll let him lead the conversation, answer his questions, but avoid going into detail. In my case, he only sees me for about 10 minutes anyway. So there's not much time for detail.

If you are paranoid, your motive should be to get a prescription, with the intention of taking the prescribed meds, tell him your distrustful of people and their motives. That will enable him to write a prescription. If you are paranoid and tell him all is well, your behaviour or your interactions may suggest otherwise.

Paranoid => Psychiatrist => Prescription
Paranoid => Counsellor => No Prescription
