It should do. They are major tranquillisers after all! Personally, I feel that using an AP for anxiety is like using a sledgehammer to hammer a nail, but you are already taking it in the night, so it might be worth a try? I found that they get rid of anxiety by making you not care about what was making you anxious. However, for me, that very quickly extends to not caring at all about anything, and so I refuse to take APs because I hate feeling like that. All I do is sit/lie down all day every day like a sloth and I hate it. But not everyone experiences that, or to that extent, and some people even like that 'numb' sort of feeling, but obviously ymmv.

All the best,

I have both psychosis and GAD/social anxiety----the atypical antipsychotics work well for anxiety in my opinion.

My pdoc said that upping my antipsychotic would help with anxiety. It didn't work though. Can you get a benzo for PRN until it kicks in?

What about gabapentin? Some people find it helpful with anxiety.

For those of us with severe, hard to treat anxiety antipsychotics like Seroquel can be helpful.

I don't take anything for anxiety but there was a time in my life when I was taking 5mg of Ativan 3x a day! I took an anxiety course at MH and it seemed to control my anxiety and I have social anxiety! But yes APs are readily used to ward off anxiety as well but they also for instance seroquel will make you extremely drowsy during the morning and not be able to function!

Maybe because I am in pain more often that I don't have a chance to concentrate on anxiety!!

Seriquil has been a life savor for me. It has helped with my psychosis/parinoia. Which in turn, helps my anxiety. I do have PRN of anxiety meds if needed. I usually need one a day still until we get my psychosis under control. It is worth a try! ☺️
