So I was talking to my mom about my recent hospitalization, and mentioned trying to go down in dose on Risperidone and having a return of psychotic symptoms. She talked to me about checking my other medications for possible side effects of hallucinations and such. I decided why not, and took a look. I noticed that Lamictal came up with hallucinations, delusions, and psychosis as rare, but possible side effects. I had my first psychosis around late January/early February 2016; and I started Lamictal in March 2016. Is it possible this could be making matters worse?

Lamictal stops mania. Mania is when psychosis can happen. Therefore, it stops psychotic symptoms. It's a mood stabilizer that also acts as a mild anti depressant. It really doesn't have too many side effects compared to its big brother lithium, and most side effects given from lithium are due to its toxicity.

If you're concerned about it I would talk to your doctor. There's always possibilities of side effects.

Lots of psych meds can have paradoxical effects. Even APs can actually CAUSE psychosis, but it is very rare. You should talk to your pdoc about it, but be prepared to have the suggestion dismissed. Pdocs don't like to acknowledge that their drugs can cause more problems than they solve...
