I don't know if there is a correlation
But usually when my "psychosis" gets really bad while I am still taking meds it happens during the two weeks before my period starts

Do hormones affect mental health?

Yes because women have a milder psychosis on average than men they investigated and found estrogen is protective......

As far as I know orgasm increases estrogen. It also releases oxytocin which in turn lowers cortisol, the main stress hormone and psychosis can be triggered by stress.

I think that there is a connection between sexual energy (libido) and psychosis. I saw that connection when I was experiencing my psychotic episodes when I was in my 20's. Then, about 12 years ago, I came across this guy's book and theory and it really started to make sense to me. He quotes a lot of different doctors and gives a lot of different examples and some studies from the past before the biochemical school took over psychiatry.
I have been interested in depth psychology for a long time and have read quite a few books by Jung and mostly Jungian authors. Inner Work by Robert A. Johnson is a good one for those who are interested in that school. The author that I was referring to above is mainly Freudian.
