So, what is it anyway? They just put me on it, as a sleeping pill. Is anyone else on it?

It's an AP. I'm on it for hallucinations and delusional thinking to keep that stuff at bay. Luckily it doesn't make me too tired, unlike Seroquel did.

I took olanzapine for a couple years. It's an antipsychotic. I'm surprised to hear it's just for a sleep aid.

Well, thing is that I wasn't there when she prescribed it. My now old psychiatrist saw me once, and then after two weeks of nothing, my mom and I went in again, for a second visit, and well to say it with words she basically said "I do not want to deal with her, you are her mother, since I don't want to help, here is a referral to the psych ward, good luck. Oh here are those pills to kind of help her sleep" ...at least form what my mom said. I wasn't there because she asked me to leave, so she could talk to my mom things that I had never said. Anyways if it's an ap I guess it will work for my psychosis. Any side-effects?

Olanzapine will help your psychosis. That's what it's for. The only side effect I got was weight gain. That didn't start until I hot 20 Mgs though. On lower doses I had no side effects except it made me sleepy for the first 2 weeks. It sounds like you need a new Pdoc. They shouldn't start you on an antipsychotic without at least discussing it with you. Your mom isn't the one taking them. You have a right to know what you are taking and how it will affect you. __________________ Schizoaffective, PTSD, Anxiety

Yep, I know. I will be going back to my psychologist though. Prefer to have an actual diagnosis from someone who will be LISTENING to me, then go get the medications for it. Though now the difference is that when I turn 18 I will head straight off to the psych ward for adults if I'm not better.. happy birthday to me I guess.

it's a scary thought but going ip and eventually getting a good med combo saved my life. My pnp is very attentive and discusses med changes with me. It's very important to find a Pdoc you can trust since the meds they prescribe can change our lives. __________________ Schizoaffective, PTSD, Anxiety

I don't think you are being represented fairly. You should never be put on a med rather it blood pressure or a psych med without you being the one talking to the doctor. This is just my two cents, though.

Zyprexa worked great until I got to 20mg now I am gaining weight and my blood sugar is out of control. I am tapering off of zyprexa and starting abilify in about two weeks. I am diabetic by the way thanks to seroquel!

To be honest, it works perfectly fine for both. But I don't want to jinx it yet.

It was pretty obvious. I'll look back on this post in case I go insane later and tell myself that reality is reality. The psychiatrists just want to help sick patients to get better not because of some conspiracy to suppress the "truth". |
