Is it just me, or is being socially inedpt a sign (not a symptom, but that'd work too) of schizophrenia? I am asking, if you just cannot find the right words to express your thoughts and emotions. And just cannot keep the conversation going.

I'm very socially awkward. My mind is blank when people are talking to me, I can't come up with things to say on the spot anymore. And another problem that started a couple years ago is I can't express thoughts or ideas correctly when I'm speaking, I start and then it just goes on and I end up repeating parts and saying the wrong words and stumbling. I at first thought it was anxiety but it happens even with people I'm completely comfortable with like my family. It upsets me because I feel as though I come across as unintelligent

hugs to all.

As Elliot Alderson put it,

Exactly! You just listed my problems in a better way than I could. I too think I am plain unintelligent because of my lack of social skills. It's better when I am comfortable but it's not a huge difference.

That's been a long time problem of mine ever since I developed anxiety and depression. Schizophrenia comes afterwards, so I wouldn't say it's linked to it, at least for my case.

I don't know, Chemist. I think you can be pretty socially awkward without being schizophrenic. I believe it's a blessing that crosses a number of diagnoses...

But I show the negative symptoms of schizophrenia so I have difficulty holding conversation. That's why I think there's a connection.

I was thinking about schizophrenia specifically, but thanks for your opinion.

I feel like in certain circumstances I'm socially awkward. But everyone is to some degree. I try not to let it get me down.

Actually, I feel like most of the time I am highly socially awkward.

I guess it depends on the day?

I also think I always divulge way too much information about myself. And I am really open about stuff. Perhaps I don't know boundaries too well? But then again I am looking for authentic connections with people, not ****** connections.

I've tried removing negative thoughts from my head and it helped tremendously.
