I have been treated for bipolar for years. Then they added "with psychotic features."

this most recent hospitalization when I was discharged and the paper did not say bipolar. instead it is schizoaffective disorder bipolar type. my psychologist told me the same thing a long time ago. I guess its final what I have now.

Welcome to the forum! I've been hanging around here lately because I have CPTSD with psychosis and I've found this group to be very supportive.

Can anyone explain to me the difference between bp 1 with psychotic features and schizoaffective with bipolar features? Aren't they just different names for the same thing?

There was a thread about this in the bipolar forum...I believe there are a couple of aspects.....in bipolar you have psychosis during mood episodes only while with sza you can have it any time. Although there is some sort of formal thought disorder associated with sza as well I don’t know much about it.

Well for example, I am stressed but not necessarily depressed but im having hallucinations. my psyd is worried about me. if I had bp w/psychotic features I would be in a mood episode too. its the defining difference from my understanding. sza is having this type of symptoms but not always having them in a mood episode. a true episode not just 1 or 2 days of feeling up or down.
