Hi all.
I am unfortunatly one of those people who have been hit by the illness in their late 20s specifically around 26 years old when i have just finished my studies and got into trying to make a living with all the intelectual power i collected over the previous years . Now i am better and really conscious of the ilness ive gone through which is a schizoid-paranoid type . I know that only a doctor will tell me if am completely good to go or not. But i am wondering if people have managed to get back at work after enduring this disease or a similarity of it . I mean are they productif and acting normal ? |

I went back to work after like two weeks after a month long psychosis. Obviously if you Psychosis is worse it will take longer. However about 7 years later I noticed cognitive decline, I believe this is actually due to the antipsychotic in this case....I’ve been struggling with this about two years and haven’t been working. However, my doc recommended fish oil and that’s helping, I plan to go back to school and get back into the work force within the next few years.

Yes. I was extremely psychotic when I was 20-24 yrs old. I was catatonic at my worst. Sat for long periods of time for days sometimes weeks in one position.
Fast forward now, I'm 29. Just turned 29. I'm working in the mental health field now. It took me like maybe 3 or 4 years to build up to this point. So its definitely possible I have also wrote a book and am writing an autobiography of my life of my 20s. __________________ "We're all born to broken people on their most honest day of living"

I don't have schizoid-paranoia, I have depression with psychotic features and some other stuff, including on the autism spectrum. I work full time but I live with my parents, even though I'm in my 30's. I need help with some day to day type things. When I was at my most sick, I lost about half a month off of work but then was able to go back to work full time. I really couldn't afford to take off more time so I went back before I was truly ready.

If you haven't heard of her, you might want to do a search for Ellen Sachs, she went on to be pretty successful in spite of the illness. I think in general the sooner it is treated the better your chances are. I didn't get treated for at least 4 years and did a lot of damage to my life, which I feel is the biggest obstacle now. I am not self sufficient.

I've been being treated since I was 19 for my MI but I definitely had depression/hallucinations/autism before that. When I was 13/14 I was suicidal. I wish I would have gotten help then. But the medicines only seem to do so much for me. They don't stop the hallucinations. They don't stop the depression. Therapy helps. But it doesn't stop it.

I dont know if you are still on meds but i feel like once you get past the treatment phase things get back to normal. As for my case , i started questioning my symptoms as soon as they started in 2015 but didnt know they were related to an illness. Its only after one year (2016) that serious symptoms showed up and my father forced me to enter an hospital After this i refused to take meds they told me to take for life ( seroquel) Finally in 2017 a doctor made a more accurate diagnosis for my condition and every time i do a check he reduces my dose on solian. I hope that when my doctor tells me to stop medication i will forget about all this issues. |

Good luck to you too, definitely sounds like your on the right track. I am more or less committed to taking meds for a very long time if not for life.

I work a 9-6 job 5 days a week. The hardest part is getting quality sleep. My meds and my illness don't let me get good sleep, and for the better part of the last year and a half has been dedicated towards trying to get stable sleep. I need at least 10 hours of sleep a night, but I don't get tired until i've been up for 20 hours, so doing the math, I get up at 8am, go to work, get off at around 8, but if I go to bed at 9:50pm, with all my sleep meds, I feel tolerable. But if I can't fall asleep, then I can't get tired until 4:30am, and at that point, If I get 4 hours of sleep I feel worse than if I just stayed up, so I then just stay up and go to work.
Once in awhile if im stressed or haven't gotten much sleep, or forgot my meds, then it's as if I'm pulled over on the autobahn and it sounds like cars are roaring past me. |
