Hi everyone.

My Dad is unwell at the moment, he in the hospital getting observed but just want to do my own research so I know everything. The doctor mentioned paranoid schizophrenia but obviously to early to tell but just want to do research. My Dad isn't displaying disorganised speech/behaviour is that a symptom that is not part of paranoid schizophrenia or do you have to display disorganised speech/behaviour to be diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia? He very open about what he is thinking & believing which the doctor said is delusions but the doctor said someone with paranoid schizophrenia are usually not open about there delusions to doctors is that true? Is there anything else that I need to know about paranoid schizophrenia as like I said i am wanting all the research so I can understand more when the doctor talks to us next week as my Dad been under observation now for 3 weeks.

Subtyping schizophrenia can be very tricky as there may be overlap in symptoms from one subtype to another. You could read about th DXM-V criteria for schizophrenia and see what they are, if you want to learn more about all this. Just google it.

I have bipolar type 1, but I spend a ton of time psychotic, so, have much in common with people with schz. It has just been my experience, knowing a bunch of people with these illnesses over the years, that some are very open with their delusions, want to convince others they are true, etc., and others are not. I suppose the paranoid schizophrenic may be more inclined to the latter, but the experts here can say more on that much more reliably than me.

Good luck to you and your dad. Very glad he is getting some help.
