Question, please. I've never received psychological help from any Drs, my entire life. Not of my choice. My dad's dad was diagnosed w paranoid schizophrenia, to give some hereditary background. As a young girl I noticed a separate good & evil voice in my head, giving me advice. I thought it was the old story of angel & devil, showing the way. Good vs evil thing. Does this describe any traits of schizophrenia, to you? I thought the good, female voice was my guardian angel. She always gives good advice. The evil, male voice tells me to do bad things & physically hurt myself. This has never stopped, my entire life. Does this sound like anything familiar, to anyone? I'm so torn. I just want to be happy, is all. The bad voice tells me to hate myself & life. I'm tired of the toxicity.

Hi shovelhead. That sounds very tiring. Are you worried you have schizophrenia? Just because you hear voices doesn't mean you have schizophrenia. There are other symptoms as well. The best bet would be to go get checked out by a doctor. You could start with your general practitioner and get a full work up and then you might want to see a psychologist or psychiatrist if your GP thinks that a psych consult is warranted. Are you able to talk back to the voices? Might make the bad voice stop. Hope you get some answers. HUGS Kit

Thank u, @SlumberKitty for your reply. I don't see any point in time that I will be able to afford help from Dr. I looked into fee mental help in USA where I live. I can talk back to the 2 voices, yes. I really believe its good & evil battling for my soul. The evil voice that tells me to go ahead & do a very dangerous, risky act involving myself, has literally almost killed me. I would get physically hurt & could've been killed. Many times, throughout my life. Its actually frightening & people are shocked at my reckless behavior. I'm used to it, cuz I've always been this way, from a young age. Teachers told my parents to get me help. My parents never did. They were both mentally ill & deep in their own addictions. Yes, I've always wondered if I had schizophrenia. I've read about the different symptoms. Some I do not have. Right, only a Dr would know, for sure. Thanks again for replying.

Yeah, only a doctor would know for sure but there are community health clinics that you might be able to go to. They aren't free. But they are extremely discounted. Try County of ___________ mental health services. Like County of Los Angeles Mental Health Services. You might be able to find someone at one of those types of places that could help you for a nominal fee. It's not good if your voices are telling you to hurt yourself. Next time your voice tells you to do that risky thing involving yourself, please go to the nearest ER and tell them what the voice is telling you to do. They can help keep you safe. Wishing you health and healing, Kit

Yeah, it's impulsive, risky behavior I do, (only to myself). Drug/alcohol usage in past. Thank goodness I got sober. With sobriety I do feel better. But the voice sometimes pops back up, saying I'm worthless & should just buy alcohol, again.

I've had voices since before 8. So It freaked me out when they got quieter with an AP. I didn't know they were voices. I thought I had migraines when they were loud. One of the voices I considered my best friend (toxic friend but friend non the less) I still miss her and the voice that defended me from her. So yes I have/had similar experience. With medication they're less and then I can use therapy to deal with everything else.
