I had anxiety for years. Over time, FEAR and anxiety built up to such a point that I became psychotic (paranoid delusional). It was absolutely horrifying. I truly believed all these things were happening to me, even though I couldn't explain how that was possible. And there was one girl and her friends who followed me everywhere....in the ceiling and walls mainly. They did horrible things to me and I tried seriously to kill myself because I couldn't get away from them. I even flew thousands of miles away....and they followed. They sadistically tortured me. But after about 1.5 years on Abilify and Serequel (plus Clonazepam), I didn't hear or feel them anymore. I also was in a safer environment where I was renting a room in a gentleman's house. One day everybody disappeared....just like that.

When my fear and anxiety levels get too high, I tend to start having problems. I am in a situation now where there is fear and anxiety daily. It only gets worse because I am all alone in a dank apartment. I have no friends or family. I have no one to turn to for comfort.

What are the chances of the psychosis coming back? I can't handle even the thought of such a thing. Has anyone resolved their psychosis only to have it return?

I know very little about psychosis. I am sorry that it afflicted you in the past and hope the present unhappy situation are you in does not cause a relapse of the psychosis. I sure hope that people here struggling with the situation you describe will see your post and respond to it. You deserve so much more than life has given you! I am alone pretty much all the time but because of my depression and anxiety. Being alone when one doesn't want to be is so painful!

There probably is an end for some people, but for most I don't think so. Once someone has crossed the threshold it seems to lower their vulnerability even after "full recovery". That is true for me and others I know who have been through the illness.

After I recovered from my first bout of the illness the symptoms returned about 4 years later. The illness was milder that time. Eventually it resolved with the help of medication.

I have an anxiety disorder as well. It can really wear me out and complicate stressful periods in my life. Sometimes psychotic symptoms resurface, especially if I'm sleep deprived and not eating well. The symptoms I get are generally mild, mostly auditory hallucinations and ideas of reference. My reality testing abilities usually stay intact. As long as I can question what is going on I know I'm not in any danger.

For some people the answer seems to be yes.

I have seen people do a turn around.

I read a small study about people recovering from psychosis & schizophrenia without meds. You can read it here.

Some schizophrenia patients can cope without medication
