Hi. I had psychotic break down last October and was sectioned under a section 2 of the mental health act. Went in mental hospital for the full 28 days and have been under early intervention team since. Really struggling with stuff and GP thinks it's schizophrenia but physiatrist won't say at this point. I don't know whats real and what's not. Was on aripiprazole but bad side effects. Will need to be meditated again but don't know what. I have been on prozac and buspirone in tge past. Thanks for reading.

Welcome to MSF. I hope you find some kindred spirits here, as I have. My diagnosis is severe major depression with psychotic features (also GAD and some OCD). I took the antipsychtoic olanzepine (Zyprexa) at first to get me over the psychotic breakdown, but due to weight gain issues, I switched to aripiprazole (Abilify). I take 20 mg per day. What type of side effects were you experiencing taking aripiprazole? It's scary to have a mental breakdown. For me, it was like I was in a tunnel in which I'd never get out, but thanks to meds, I am out. You will be, too! It's a matter of finding the right meds for you. Personally, I wouldn't want to be without an antipsychotic. When will you be seeing the psychiatrist again? Here is more info about my diagnosis (the only thing that is missing from the assessment scale is constipation which I experienced), feel free to share it with your team: Psychotic Depression / Depression with psychotic features ASSESSMENT SCALE Take one day at a time, one moment at a time, it does take some time, so be patient with yourself and get rest. Take good care... |

I have been through a similar experience. The illness made me feel horrible physically and mentally. I did not trust anyone, including myself.
I don't know whats real and what's not. It may not feel like it, but this is a good sign. You have some insight. This reminded me of the confusion I often felt right before I crossed the threshold. Once I crossed, there wasn't a feeling or sensation. The bizarre thinking I once questioned suddenly felt normal and rational, but not to anyone else. Medication and a persistent medical team that actually believed in me made a huge difference. I recovered. It will take time to recover. Friends, family, clinicians, medication, hobbies etc... can be very helpful. __________________ Dx: Didgee Disorder |
