Hi I am new here my name is Sheila. I have a daughter of 31 who suffers from schizophrenia. I was also diagnosed with the same condition 3 years ago. Luckily I made a quick recovery although I am still on medication. My daughter was diagnosed 11 years ago and now she doesn't like to socialise, can't watch telly as it frightens her so is restricted to the kitchen or her bedroom.

I'm glad you are feeling better. As you will discover there are an array of opinions on the best treatment for Schizophrenia.

It is very common for those with Schizophrenia to dislike the TV. I think you should consider reversing things and perhaps only putting a TV in your room. It may help her to feel more comfortable in her own home.

You said she was diagnosed 11 years ago, is she also on medication? Is she receiving any kind of other therapy?

Thanks for your response.

The only problem about putting the telly in our room is that we have 3 other children living with us and they also have lots of friends coming round so Claudine never goes in the front room anyway.

She does have a flat in London where we go and stay for half our time. She is more independant there, she enjoys food shopping and cooking which she doesn't do at home.

She is takin risperidone 5mg. She used to attend day classes at her local hospital in London when she lived there full time. Sheila x
