Hi.....
I am in my 40's and have had "thoughts", "voices", etc., at times for a long time! I take anti-psychcotic meds which help. I was talking to a pyschriatic nurse and she said that the thoughts come from me .... I don't think so..... these thoughts are always how horrible I am andhow I need to self destruct etc..... they come from somewhere but NOT me. She said when I have a "thought" that I should sing out loud to myself or say something out loud. For me... this does not work..... any ideas on what would work? When I get stressed out the thoughts and voices are more insitant ... they do my head in.... Looking for support, understanding and friendship! Judith |

I am studying to be a psychiatric nurse and cannot imagine telling someone, 'those thoughts come from you..' I have read so many things at this site from people with similiar experiences, and these thoughts seem to come, from a darker place, than you or your personality...I used to hear voices myself, and I found, the deeper personal relationships I have, the more involved I am with my community, it helps...try taking a warm bath, for short term relief, playing your favorite CD, what things do you enjoy? What things are doing the stressing out and can you avoid them? The fact that you are looking for support, understanding, and friendship....YOU WILL DEFINATELY FIND THEM HERE

I'm so sorry you had to listen to that nurse's rubbish, and too come at a time when you really need the support.
Something I find that helps for me when things get a little out of control with voices and any urges to self harm is to do the dishes, as it uses most senses. It took a while for it too start working for me, but now it works wonders. Good luck, and take care of yourself ![]()

Well, they come from inside yourself now, but I think most likely they are repeats or reworkings of what you heard from other real people who were outside yourself in the past.
