this is a note to say THANK YOU to those in the chat room last night and DID help me. the voices were really bad. all talking at the same time all of a sudden. they were in control all day till late night when i was talking to others here. i got the shakes as i call it. i stopped talking and turned off the computer and meditated. it took a bit but i finally got the voices in harmony and the seeing thing part somewhat under control. i am still seeing the things, but learned to keep them quit for one day at least.AGAIN
thank you. ALL

Hello once more reddragon,
Here are some resources for services that might be able to help you in St. Louis. Please note that I'm not from St. Louis so I don't know any of these people or organizations. They're probably all good in their own way but what everyone needs or wants is different. I suggest you click on each link, read what the website or program has to offer, and if you feel comfortable with what you see, give them a call.

As a general rule of thumb I always suggest to people that they seek help if...
- they think they need it
- they want to hurt themselves
- they want to hurt someone else

All of the above are signs that you need more help than you can give yourself. I would urge you to contact someone if any of the above is true.

- Missouri Department of Mental Health: FAQ's There was lots of information on this page regarding common questions such as who can help pay for the services you might receive.

- Missouri Department of Mental Health: Client/Patient Rights This page discusses your legal rights in the state of Missouri.

The following links look like drop-in programs although all of them have contact information and counselors/therapists.

- Community Alternatives
- Independence Center
- Places for People
- Self Help Center

I got most of the information above from this page: Mental Health America of Eastern Missouri. You can find additional links and resources there.

Hopefully, this will be a start for you finding the help you need.

A question for you reddragon...

You said you'd taken medication before and it didn't help you. I was curious about that and wondering if you would feel comfortable sharing more information about your medication experiences. Note that I'm not going to tell you that you should take medication. I think medication is one tool of many. Some people find it helps them immensely; other people find it doesn't help them at all or makes things much worse for them.

Most people use a combination of tools (medicinal and non-medicinal) to assist them. If you're not using medication it can be helpful to increase the non-medicinal tools you are using. If I (and others here) understand more about the kinds of medication you have tried in the past and why you didn't find it helpful, that can help us make suggestions that might be most helpful to you.

Nonetheless, you don't have to answer that question if you'd prefer not to.

hello spiritual_emergency, i will help if i can. the meds i spoke of in the past was not for my condition here. i took volumes from friends years ago to stop the shakes. when all the voices talk at once, it is hard. walking down the street the voices help you, you have a choice to fight or do what it takes to get by without anyone getting hurt. the only meds i took was the volumes, then ,now of 15 years at least i take no meds.

reddragon: the meds i spoke of in the past was not for my condition here. i took volumes from friends years ago to stop the shakes.

Hello reddragon,
Thank you for your help. I'm not sure if I understand what volumes are. Did you mean you used street drugs or alcohol as a form of self-medication? If that's the case, it's certainly not unusual -- many other people have done the same thing.

There are different medications however that can also be used. I think everyone should have the opportunity to try to resolve their difficulties without medication if they choose to do so however medication is one of many tools. Some people identify medication as enormously helpful. Is that something you'd be comfortable considering at this time?

i went to all the sights. no help.

Going to the sites can only give you some information about the services offered by that particular program. Ideally, you would actually meet with other people, face-to-face, and they could help you explore your options. For example, if you need help with finding a safe place to live, there are people there who can help you. Of if you want to speak with a counselor, they might be able to help you set up some appointments you wouldn't have to pay for. Also, there would be other people there who have had experiences like you have and they might know some other ways of coping with those kinds of experiences, or they could tell you who the good doctors or best counselors are.

I don't know all your exact concerns because I don't know you. But you know you, and you must have some ideas of what kind of help would be best. The thing is, just going to the website won't provide you with much help but talking to the people at those places might help you.

In another post of yours I read that you felt a book might be helpful to you and maybe it will. But if it's not enough help, it's good to know there are still other things you can try. I would suggest that you remember that list of sites is here so that if you do want to talk to someone there, you can easily find the contact information.

Best of luck to you reddragon.
