Question Feb 15, 2009 at 04:48 PM
  #1
Ive suffered from psychosis for over 4 years now. It all started with an extreme episode of voices I thought were real which resulted in me being admitted. Its kind of not as bad as it was but its still there. Im on medication but I need to know has anyone out there recovered enough from a problem like that to be able to come off their meds?
Im concerned because I havent had children yet and anyway is it all life holds for me now to be in out of hospital or rehab?
See some days I do feel better than others and sometimes I know Im just letting things take over. So has anyone out there been able to just be ok somehow. If so please let me know what you did and didnt do and Ill be very grateful. Thanks everyone.

Welcome! Some people have a one off experince of psychosis, others have several. Mental health problems tend to be up and down anyway. Anyone with psychosis is not permantly stuck in psychosis mode so I don't believe that people need to be on meds forever.

Some people hear voices all the time but don't get stressed out by it and others learn to understand more about what's going on.

There are times that you need to take meds and therapy is very helpful but the outlook isn't all bad.

Hope this answers your question.

I've heard voices all my life&I find that anti-psychotic meds lessen the volume&frequency of them. Never having lived without them, it took until I was about 7 to realize that everybody didn't hear voices too. Just take it one day at a time&stay on your meds-if you stop them you may be worse off. I've never been able to live w/out meds, but I suppose it is possible for some to not have to take them for the rest of their lives.
