Hello, all. Many to all of you. I usually post in the Depression thread, but I have something I want your opinion on.

This happened to me last year and I've kept it to myself just until now. I was driving on the highway and I distinctly heard a voice saying, "Can I go with you"? I only heard that once and it was very clear and distinct. I have not heard that since, but I am puzzled by it.

I am totally confused and don't understand what it was and have no explanation. Has anyone ever experienced anything similar to this?

Is this the only time you have heard this voice?

There can be many causes for this. One, being lack of sleep, the fact that you heard it while you are driving makes sense as many people can slightly dissociate and be in a dream-like state.

Other explanations might be high anxiety or a PTSD flashback.

brephi,

I would like to share an experience I had that might help to alleviate your fears a little. The first time I heard a voice and there was no one around it freaked me out. It still happens occasionally but, with a lot more information under my belt, it doesn't freak me out anymore. I never told anyone for a long time because I was afraid I was going mad. When I finally mentioned it to a pdoc I had been referred to for serious depression, his reaction was, "Is that all? Why didn't you say? We can fix that." I was so relieved at him believing me that I burst into tears. It does seem to be related to stress and lack of sleep.

In my opinion, it could be paranormal, in a sense...Not within your mind, from without....As you passed through this area you were driving through, an entity, or something (indigenous to that area) reached out to your mind with a question.
I've had numerous (though not audible) experiences were I thought something was trying to reach out, to get my interest. To make me think, more and more, about it and thus gain strength through my energy. Whether for good or evil or whatever it is best to dismiss these incidences from your mind and not dwell or 'obsess'. This robs your energy to fulfill a positive life......

Now, i see why i joined the pc forum -- having discussions with others who have had or are going through similar experiences. Safron, you and yutzman "hit the nail on the head."

I have a male voice which comes out when im in crisis/very stressed out. It is a very odd voice, which strings together parts of sentances that don't make any sense.

Like it will say "tuesday is the day on which the cows take up study in the candle of the large green box" or other nonsense.

Psych says its a way the brain deals with stress, it focuses on these voices or whatnot. And it always goes away when meds are upped/I am out of crisis.
Thanks for this!
