DocJohn, I just watch a video on youtube where Dr Rhoda Hahn discusses schizotypal disorder. What she describes sounds kind of extreme and not what believe I am. It seems to me that since psychology is not a "hard" science that the profession seems to accommodate the gradient of symptoms or emotional discomfort in their patients.
I'm not sure if there is any real psychological problem with me, at least not the way Dr Rhoda describes it. Often I find myself annoying my wife, marginalized by society, and distant from everyone even myself. I don't have "magical" thinking, but I find my isolation from the world more acceptable if I believe it is because I'm superior to everyone else. Anyway thanks for a place to vent. |

Though I am not old enough to be diagnosed for this, I have most (all except for one or two) of the symptoms for Schizotypal Disorder, and some of them, especially the paranoid part, are bothering me alot. I've had at least three or these symptoms in elementary school, and they're starting to get worse (I'm in high school now).
My belief that people are out to get me has really gotten me into trouble, and once I ended up getting a friend in trouble and myself off the hook for it. I know that I should go see and ask my doctor about this, but getting help for these types of things are sort of a...taboo in my family. If I were to somehow get professional help for this, I know that my parents would not be happy about it. Is this something I should be seriously worried about? I'm certain I have SPD. I meet all the symptoms but on a sliding scale, some worse than others. I can definitely have long term relationships outside my nuclear family. On the downside, don't put me in an office working situation, ugh; can't handle it.

Even though it's supposedly to early to be diagnosed for I am only 14, almost 15, at the moment, I still believe it's likely I have this. I always feel really anxious and paranoid in social situations, I doing core with stress well unless its lets say a test for school. I dint have many close relationships, not even with my family. I have a boyfriend and several of his friends that I trust. I notice some delusions in my past memory. I dont talk to practically anyone when I'm in public. My only really close relationship is with my boyfriend, whom ii trek everything. Do I need to have this looked into?

I think I may have Schizotypal Personality Disorder, that's actually half of the reason why I joined this site.

So happy to have found this support site. I have been diagnosed with Schizotypal Personality Disorder. I do experience all the symptoms. It took a long time for me to admit to myself that I was having problems and it took an even longer time to find the right combination of drugs to feel better. I'm in my 50's now, I guess I've travelled a long and delusional road. With a lot of hind sight and medication, I now feel it's important to get a diagnosis. Life can be a whole lot better. If you think you might suffer from this ask your doctor. My sister tells me she remembers my odd behaviour as early as 7 years old, so it begins early. Thanks for sharing your stories, it has help me recognize my own symptoms which is half the battle.

I have been diagnosed with a lot of things but SPD is one , where my reading syncs with opinions by the people who saw me. One comfort has been of late a way out, that Einstein was located on the schizotypal-autistic continuum. This is not too far out, and the fact that his son was schizophrenic points to a genetic link. Right now, I am dealing with acute social issues, and am compelled to interact. I feel this sight may offer some relief. Thank You, in advance
