I find this happens to me a lot when I'm reading, I get what I read but I can't really process it in a way that makes sense and I hate it, when I read I have to re-read something a lot and then I will get it >o<;;
Or when I talk to someone I need them to repeat what they say so I can think about it 5 more times and then respond or like later in a conversation when everyone has forgot about that specific part I'd bring it up in some odd way and everyone gets confused... I duno >o<' This is confusing to explain lol.... __________________ "Tear down the wall" |

Actually that happens to me a lot. I'll read something and as soon as I'm done with the sentence I have completely forgotten the contents and the meaning behind it. Or like I can understand the words and even the context but I dont process it or something like they are just words on a page that have no relation to one another... Hard to explain. Also in conversations I have to have ppl either repeat them selves cause I will get hung up on something the said or a gesture they made and wonder at the deeper meaning behind it or what they were thinking instead of what they were saying or get so completely lost in my own thoughts that I miss the rest of the conversation. Even watching movies or listening to songs.

I find it extremely interesting and comforting yet a little distressed to know someone else experiences this as well. I know it can be very frustrating, a neat little trick it to train yourself to hear the tone/melody of what they're saying and when they break for a response you can give any number of patent responses that go along with those social cues. Like if my sister is talking like crazy and upbeat or kinda laughing and I come to myself realizing she was expecting a response I might say something like "oh wow thats crazy" with a little laugh in my voice or if shes fussing about something and tone suggest she's looking for understanding and reassurance I might say "Right!" with a particular tone to match hers. I have quite a few more but with my people it's easy, they dont care what I think/feel/or am going through just whether I am listening to their **** or not.... P.S. Training you ear for the tone instead of the words themselves can also be helpful in bringing your thought back around to the conversation. I am an analyzer bad and if I shift focus to the tone and start to analyze it I remember I'm supposed to be listening to the conversation and attention comes back. __________________ As best as you can, see that as just another thought, a mental event asserting itself in the moment that will eventually pass. Wow I never thought I would find a thread that described exactly what happens to me when I read any sort of material, be it a book for school or just for fun. I have no idea if this has anything to do with the schizo mind. I am schizophrenic if that helps at all but I'm not sure what schizotypal means.

I am a MAJOR ANALYZER!!!! That really hit a note with me. And I too sometimes have to read things 4 or 5 times to get it, but I do also notice I have a somewhat photographic memory, but only when reading subjects that interest me. Then I can actually pick out certain phrases or sentences on a page, but cannot see the entire page. As far as analyizing things....I have a tendence to analyze them to death. __________________ If you believe you need no explaination, if you don't believe no explaination is possible - I.Newton http://solitarysage.psychcentral.net...ing/#comment-2 |

I do these same things too. I was diagnosed with OCD a long time ago and only recently with Schizotypal PD and I blamed the OCD before. I thought I was just obsessing about something, either a word I wanted to understand the meaning of better, not sure I was understanding the context, or something, or I would catch a grammatical error and get stuck.
Same thing when someone is talking to me. If they have a weird mannerism or something is out of place with them, I can't hear them. I get stuck. Now I think maybe it's not just the OCD. I have learned to do the same thing with following cues to decide what to say when I haven't heard a word they said. I know sometimes I say the wrong thing by the look on the faces of the people around me but I don't know what else to do. Sometimes I then say something I finally processed from what was said earlier, hoping to fit back in. Then I usually give up and say that I have to go. Part of the time, I have so much chatter in my head I really don't care what they are saying and that's really why I got stuck. LOL! Funny thing about finding out I was schizotypal is that we are typically loaners, which I agree I am, but I read that we don't benefit from forums and groups like other personality disorders do. This proves otherwise as we all seem to be comforted in not being alone. It's kind of nice to just admit to being "odd" and letting it go instead of worrying over it. __________________ Footnmouth ********************************** My mouth has a mind of its own. |
