about going back to school------always wanted to have my degree before 50--well, that goal got pushed back from 30, 40, 45.....and now i'm past the 50 goal.
![]() H and i talked at length, insiders talked at length, and we decided to go for it! so, now the goal is pushed back again to 60!!!! now the quest begins for looking for the "right" school. I'm an adult with experiences that would fit into 2 or 3 lifetimes--well, i guess the do sorta--not an 18 yr old high school student and i want to find someplace that will respect that. thnking of counselling psychology-----and my T teaches at one of the best colleges around this area for that degree--unfortunately, she teaches the core courses and the practicum.... ![]() so now i search for grants, schools and ideas where to go. Any ideas on women's grants will be accepted!!! ![]() |

![]() Congratulations to you! My mum went back to school in her 50s and has been so happy with her decision. Going from my mum's experience I think she found it best going to a smaller more academically serious school. That way the classes were smaller and more serious and she got more out of them. If you have a good college in your area for Psychology you should definitely look there too! I wish you all the best! |

white iris,
This is one of the few areas in which I consider myself almost an expert ![]() I have some suggestions. Look into taking CLEP exams.http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/clep/exams.html You can earn college credit by exam for a small portion of what it would cost to take the usual 3-hour credit class. Make sure that the college you are interested in will take CLEP credits. I earned 9 hours by exam, which was a huge help. Make an appointment with the admissions offices for the colleges in which you think you might want to attend. Ask them about any kind of financial aid. Unfortunately, because of the economy, grants are difficult to come by, but they (and their financial aid office) should have suggestions. You may want to sign up on fastweb.com. They can help you find information about potential scholarships, but you have to put up with a lot of advertising and useless information to sort it out. I suspect that you will be eligible for student loans. Please don't let the media news scare you away with their distorted perspective, by the way. Colleges have had to become more aware of non-traditional students, since they are making up a bigger part of the student population. You may be older than your professors and most of your classmates, but that's just part of the fun ![]() Let me know if I can help! Like I said, been there, done that ![]() |
