I'm so brain dead right now. I am taking a parasitology class and have to write a 10 pg paper on a topic of my choice. I can't think of anything! I just sit staring at google with the word "parasites" in the search bar and think "well that's not specific enough". But I don't want to do something like parasites in dogs or cats or anything really typical. Anybody know of any crazy animal parasites? I'm drawing a big ol' blank lol

Well bed bugs don't transmit disease so it would be pretty limited to just their life cycle. I think I'm going to do it on Lyme caused by ticks since I have
it. I found some pretty good articles comparing hosts from different parts of the us. I was thinking abt doing the botfly and a guy in my dept has had them before but it would be pretty limited also.

Didn't you work last summer with some sort of fly or mosquito larva or worms or something out in the woods that was dangerous or was that someone else?

Maybe something human interest? http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dpd/

I once saw many years ago these natives in Africa, who drank from the same water the cows bathed in. They got this huge worm which grew just underneath the surface of their skin, reaching a length from the head down to their ankle. It started to protrude out at the ankle, so he wrapped it around a pencil and everyday he would wrap a little more, until it finally came out all the way - so gross. I hope there's a better treatment now.

Perna - I worked with Gypsy Moths which are invasive and a main food source for white-footed mice who are the main reservoirs for Lyme Disease. That's another reason why I thought of doing it because I have worked with it before.
