This is my third time at college and I'm very happy because I will become a college graduate on 3/6/11 The craziness I'm going through now is that I want to eventually open my own bakery, just a small mom and pop thing, and I thought that the degree I'm receiving (Business Administration/Entrepreneurship, plus I've been in the industry 17 years) wouldn't give me enough credentials so I enrolled at a fancy cooking school and I am supposed to start next year. The thing is it's one state over, which I'm eventually moving there some time next year anyways, however I was looking at my loan list and I don't really want to get into anymore debt and I'm having doubts as to whether my admissions rep could come through on his promises of having me an apartment and job when I get there. I had cancelled my loans and he called me telling me he feels I'm making a big mistake basically telling me that if I don't go to his school I won't have my bakeryBut like I told him I don't have any money to make the monthly payments and I don't want to be homeless and jobless in a new state And now my brain is going haywire that I can't even concentrate on my homework What to do....any suggestions greatly appreciated! Thanks for listening to me ramble on

A friendly foodie here offering what I can

First, if that rep is telling you that you cannot succeed without his school, he needs to be shot. I you have the motivation and basic skills, there is no reason you cannot reach your goals. Also, what you learn in culinary school doesn't mean all that much. It is real experience that matters. And with a degree in business management is just as valuable when it comes to trying to run your own business.

Is there something special with the school you wish to attend?

If you are worried about wor and housing, could you do some searching on your own for possible jobs? Often times you can find a shop that may be looking for a low paid intern. May not make oodles of money but may come up with enough to rent a room and gain valuable experience that is vital in running a business.

Is there a school closer to you? May not be as well known or prestigious as some schools but sometimes they can have some pretty impressive instruction as well.

It is a tough decision to make where to go to school, what is more necessary, long term benefits and consequences and all that.

Congrats on graduating. That is an awesome thing to accomplish.

Congrats on graduating, first of all! I agree with Dark Dreams,.... the admission guy should not tell you- you will not make it if you don't attend his school. That's crazy! So some more research- see if there's another school, less pricey but as the same classes you are looking for.
Best of Luck!

Thanks guys After sleeping on it I've decided to be happy with my Business degree! He's still trying to get me there, but I'm proud of myself considering I've had a very difficult past 2 years. The main reason I was going to go there was because it was a very well known school, The Art Institute, but I don't need it. And now I will start doing my own research for a job for next year!
