Today, I got my acceptance letter from the college I wanted to go to, for Psychology. I've wanted to major in Psych since middle school.

I honestly couldn't be happier right now. <3

So don't give up hope, guys. Even while going through the worst of times, good things can still happen.

I plan on specializing in suicide prevention and grief.

I just wanted to share that with all of you because I'm excited about it.

Good for you!!!!
Can I ask how you decided on psychology and what classes you are taking? ( I work in the medical field, and would like to go back to school and concentrate on psych-maily alzheimer's and older adult psych. I just don't know where to start.)

Thank you!

I decided on psych after borrowing a psychology book from my older brother when I was younger, and looking through it. It was so interesting, learning how the mind works. After that I went and bought a book about psychology for myself. Now I have around 15 books on the subject. I decided that was what I wanted to go to college for.

I'm currently a senior in high school and am taking AP Psychology, which is basically an introductory psych college course. I love it. I still have to sign up for college classes.

Adult psych sounds interesting. I suggest taking a few different types of psych classes, along with any classes that will supplement it, like statistics. I was going to take that this year, but I didn't have enough room in my schedule for it. Wherever you plan on going should be able to provide you with the additional info you need.

I've taken abnomal psych, adult psych, psych nursing, intro to psych and life span psych in college. The classes were very interesting; I've taken them as college electives but not in an actual degree- so that's what I'm leaning towards now.
Yes, psych is very cool!
What books do you suggest to read for psych? I only have textbooks so far. lol.

That's really awesome! I suggest Phantoms in the Brain, by V.S. Ramachandran, M.D., PH.D. It's all about the most interesting case studies in psychology, and how they influenced the field itself. For example, there's a patient who goes blind, but instead of an absence of vision, he sees purely hallucinations. It's really cool. Blink by Malcolm Gladwell is amazing too. It's about the psychology about making quick decisions, and how they can be more accurate than decisions you spend a lot of time making. The other books I have are either info resource or textbooks.

It's wonderful that you're getting the opportunity to study what you really want, and when you like what study you perfom better.

I was working towards a double major Psych and Sociology but opted to stick with Sociology and go for Psych as a minor. INteresting to say the least. I might still go for the double but have a few months to decide.

There is such a feeling of accomplishment when that acceptance comes through. I was jumping for joy. Congratsulation on getting into the program you wanted. Keep up the good work and learn a lot.

I'll add my congratulations, too! I was an undergraduate psych major and then went on to get my Ph.D. in Social Psychology. I have never regretted it. I taught at the college level for 20 years, and then I developed bipolar disorder and had to go on disability. But I still enjoy reading about it and find it helpful in interacting with the folks here!

Ah, that's amazing! :O I really hope I can get that far, too. I want to create a life for myself that I can look back on and be proud of. I'm sorry that you had to go on disability, though. :/
