im so grr atm because i dnt want to do psych and that is my major. i was suppose to graduate next month lol and i new for a while i didnt want to do the psych thing but i was so close with my degree i kept doing it. i no and people tell me all the time i wld not make a good psych therapist and i no this too but psych is so interesting, the way people behave always was of interest for me so that is why i went for it maybe doing reasearch prt of psychologie but that is now realistic for me anymore... im so annoyed with my career issues and what i shld do. my dream job is to be a geneticist, i always wantedto do that kond of thing, genetics has always interest me as well but never did it because of all the other biologie i wld have to do (envriomental, plants stuff i dnt care as much about). another thing that is probably a lttle more realistic for me is to teach German, im already majoring in that to with psych but ya what do you all think? do any of you deal with career choices what to be and how to get there? any1 going through this atm to?
opinions...? thanks 21

There's business stuff too; personnel management, things vaguely related to psych. I like the idea of teaching German for awhile since you are also getting that degree; maybe you can do that while you think what you'd like to do next and if you could somehow get in the genetics field without so much botany, peas, and Gregor Mendel

If you do the German, even part-time for awhile, you will have your degrees and some experience and could get in a Masters program in Education that way.
Another thought; any way you could do your own reading in the "plant" portions of the basic genetics courses and then test out of the actual courses so you could spring into the more interesting ones? Once you get your basic degrees, the world can open up for what can be cross-pollinated :-) and how to shift what you study/careers. Often when you get to higher levels you just have to "know" the basic stuff, they won't slow down for you or help you but will let you enroll and take the other courses. Maybe reading/studying the dull stuff on your own, in your own way would be easier than the traditional way.

I know what you mean. Career choices are hard. I am majoring in Psychology right now and the only thing that really bothers me is knowing enough to know how messed up I am.
I really just want a job helping others and I hope to be able to find something that I can do this with. Just take your time and don't be so hard on yourself. It will all be okay and work out in the end. |
