So my school just raised a bunch of fee's for school (class dues, parking spots, user fees) and I don't mind I know we need money, but some of it is crazy, like the more you're involved to more you have to pay to participate. Yes some kids can get the fee waived if they qualify for free/reduced lunch, but some people who don't qualify still have trouble paying these things! And I have class dues I haven't paid yet, and I hope hope hope I don't have to pay the new price (it multiplied my 5...)! And I just don't know what a lot of my friends and myself are going to do...we don't qualify for help, and technically we can afford it but not really!

I guess this turned into a rant so I apologize...but does anyone else have this problem (I'm assuming they do)? How is it handled?

Hahaha it seems like every semester everthing keeps going up (except for textbooks, thats pretty constant). Here's some of the fees I've had to pay for this semester...
energy fee
health center fee (never used this)
parking
student service fee
recreation fee (never used this either)
registration fee
green fee
international education fee (wtf)
library fee
technology fee
student union fee

Hi filensave, is it for high school or college? If it's high school, have you asked your parents for help? At least told them the fees have increased and you are worried you won't be able to do activities because of the extra cost? Maybe they could help find a solution to the problem. If they aren't able to help you, could you make some money yourself to help out--part time job, or even just stuff like babysitting, yard work for neighbors, etc.?

This is high school, and I am going to ask them (once school starts and they tell us formally so I have all the fees). I am hoping they won't get to annoyed (with the school). I don't think they will but still. I have a weekly babysitting job and I was going to put all the money toward college funds (it wouldn't be much but...) but I'm not sure how much I'll be able to put away. It is nice though that it's my last year so hopefully they make us pay the old rates (old) unpaid class dues.

Sigh...thanks for the response

I am glad you will tell your parents and hope they won't get too annoyed at the fees. I am a parent and the schools are often raising their fees here and have also completely eliminated some services.

As a parent, I like to have as much notice as I can if there are going to be additional expenses so I can start planning for that--adjusting the budget, giving up other things to cover the new expense, etc. So if you can tell your parents now, even if you don't have the exact amount of the fees, they might appreciate it. Good luck.
