Hi everyone,
I'm taking my last two high school courses, so I can graduate and attend college. I'm currently taking Challenge and Change in Society, and grade 12 university level English. Since I'm taking 2 courses, it's not bad at all. But I still struggle immensely with procrastination, and the more I put off school work, the harder it is to get started. Does anyone have any tips on how to stay motivated, or even just to get the willpower to START school work? ![]() |

I reward myself. It works, I swear.
For instance if I have something I /need/ to get done but I really dont feel like damn well doing it... I just tell myself.. "Hey, if you do it, you can go spend 20 dollars on something stupid..." or "You can spend 5 hours playing a game." I set myself up to win because I know me and I'm incredibly materialistic and fun-loving. In your case - use something you know you love. Knowing that something awesome is coming out of it makes it much easier. I even give myself a grand prize at the end of the whole thing. For instance if I got straight As that whole year, its a trip to -insert awesome country/state here-. ;D |

You could try scheduling it in. Say, half an hour a day starting at 4:30 PM. Then afterwards you get to do something fun. Breaking it up into little pieces can make it feel less daunting, and not having to spend all day thinking about how you 'should' start a project can keep you from building it up in your mind.
If you can work up the motivation to get out the door, then it might also help to go to the library or something to work. I often work better in another location where I only do schoolwork. That way I don't have much to distract me. If you enjoy doing something outside, like taking a walk or biking, you could use this as incentive to get to your study place and back. Then once you're there, doing the work itself is a lot easier.

These are great suggestions! I too reward myself for doing school work. Sometimes if the paper is especially hard to write I have to reward myself after each paragraph I write. I also try to never go for more than an hour without a break or reward. it does help.
