Hello everyone
I'm a graduate student studying psychology it's my last year. One of the requirements in my program is that I become a MFT trainee for about 10-12 months. I am extremely nervous about doing this I studied hard to get this far. My question is how would I prepare myself for my MFT traineeship in the fall? I just want to do a good job.

Pardon me for showing my ignorance, but what does MFT stand for? I got a Ph.D. in Social Psychology in 1980, so I didn't have to do any training. Are you getting a degree in counseling or clinical?

Have you read all the State-mandated stuff? http://www.bbs.ca.gov/app-reg/mft_requirement.shtml

I don't think you can "prepare", that's why you are in a practicum, to learn this stuff. The requirements look new; I'd ask your therapist about them, if you have one, or a professor you know/trust, etc.?

I am sorry for not clarifying but MFT stands for marriage family therapist and I am getting my degree in counseling psychology.

I'm sure you'll do fine. Note that "practicum" seems to come from the same root as "practice." And I have no doubt that you'll have someone as a "mentor," who will be encouraging you along the way and making suggestions, as needed. Just think, you'll finally actually be DOING what you have been training for!
