I am having hard time making this choice. In a year and a half I have to pick a college to go to to get my Bachelors in Early Childhood Education. In my state it is a law that all teachers must have a Bachelors in their field of study to teach. Right now I have the decision of whether I stay close to my mom who is not that bad and go to a college that is maybe 15 or 20 minutes away from her or be close to my nana who is a little on the nuts side. I love my nana don't get me wrong but she is very nosey and the college is only 20 or 30 minutes from her. The college that is 20 or 30 minutes from my nana is my dream college though. I have dreamed of going there since I was 8 years old. When most children at that age weren't even considering college I was saying I was going to go there. They have the greatest education program. They are like 1st or 2nd in the nation for their education program. I have not heard much about the education program at the college that is 15 or 20 minutes from my mom. I don't really know. Also the other thing that scares me is if my Bipolar acts up I can't just run home to my mom. The college that is close to my nana's house is like an hour and half from my mom's house. Please help me.

Picking a college is a hard choice. I had a really hard time trying to decide when I was a freshman in college, where to go.

Are you a freshman? If so, and you pick a college and decide you don't like it after your first year, it would be pretty easy to transfer to another school.

Have you tried making a pros and cons list of both schools, and seeing which one comes out on top?

Has your bipolar disorder been effectively managed with the treatments you are receiving now? Most colleges have resources available to help students who struggle with mental illness. Even if you are far away from home, you should have access to psychiatrists and counselors on campus.

Also, an hour and a half isn't really that far away - if there was an emergency or serious situation, you would still be able to go home relatively easy, as opposed to if you were across the country somewhere or something.

I can't tell you which school to go to. I had a number of choices of schools as a college freshman. Rather than going to my dream school, I went to a community college near my home for my first two years. Then after that, I transferred to the school I really wanted to go to. Obviously, I would have liked to go to my dream school for all four years, but by compromising with myself, I was able to save a lot of money and at least get to go to my dream school for part of my education. I loved every second of being at my dream school, even though it was far from home.

Good luck deciding.

I am going to try the pros and cons list. I really like the idea of going to my dream college but don't want to deal a nosey nana. She would always want to know what I am doing all the time. She would probally even come check up on me daily. I am the first born grandchild so I understand why she would do it but still I don't like that thought. I could never live my life the way I want. She would be saying you need to do this you need to do that. Plus she would want me to come see her all the time and I wouldn't have time for that. There is a lot more pros though. I have never stayed in a dorm longer than a week at Church camp two years in a row I loved it too. I would be away from home. I would be out on my own again. I would possibly meet new people and get to have some new experiences. Less of someone telling what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. Get a change of enviorment. It is pretty close to my hometown so I would be near my hometown again which is what I have always wanted. I guess I am seeing that the pros out way the cons. I need to look into my dream college and see what I need to transfer there.

How old is your Nana? Is she spry enough that she COULD visit every day--and that lonely?

Also, have you been accepted to both of these schools already? I gather not if going to college is a year and a half away. If you get rejected by one, then that would make your choice for you. Plus, many things could change in that period of time.
