Somehow I got into a timezone that is like, not where I live hahaha. I live in CA and I go to a Community College. I don't go to a community college because I was a poor student in high school (a lot of people assume that). I actually took AP classes (calculus, science) and managed a 3.8 GPA (weighted) in high school. But my parents went to community college to help out their parents financially and transferred to a 4 year. My grandparents were farmers and restaurant owners so my parents didn't have much growing up. However, I grew up in the upper-middle class because my parents are hardworking and made a better life for me and my sister. So I decided to help them out and go to a Community College as well since I couldn't pay for myself (they paid for their own tuition when they were my age which makes me feel completely insignificant)
Anyways, so I'm in Community College and I'm getting a D in one class and a C in another!! does NOT happen to me. I have been studying hours on end, i don't party, drink, smoke, or have a social life. My life revolves around school (and ballet) because I want to make my parents proud. It just SUCKS working so hard and not having anything to come from it. NO results. well, bad results. I haven't told my parents yet, they're going to be so mad. I'm going to have to drop my classes, and in Spring Semester 500 classes are going to get cut because of CA's low $ in education!! So i'm pretty much screwed for life. It doesn't help that my older sister is attending a very prestigious college, but she's smart. She doesn't have to study and still gets A's *sigh* Anyways, work is just piling up. And in my classes i'm like the only freshmen out of 30 sophomores... and the teachers always reference like Calc or English I class. And i skipped those because I got into the higher level classes thru my assessment tests but now I feel behind... Seriously, there is nothing to cushion a fall in College. I can't believe i miss high school So why life sucks right now: A. College is hard B. I don't really have any friends because I live 45 minutes away from the school C. Parents expectations D. My own expectations E. I injured my achilles so I can't dance anymore so i'm getting fat (i went from 106 pds to 111 in TWO MONTHS)F. at the rate that education is progressing, people my age will have to go to grad school to get a job, and i'm NOT looking forward to that __________________ forget regret, or life is yours to miss |

My granddaughter is a freshman at Mary Wahsington University and it was hard at first. Of course she lives there so maybe thats better. She could not believe all the work as compared to high school!!!!
Try talking to a couselor there Sometimes it about different study habits and where you are studying. The work is three times as hard as you experienced at high school so it probably blew your mind how different it was! First of all your parents if they are anything like me, are proud of you anyway regardless. Sounds like all you are doing is about them and not you!!!!!Maybe thats the problem!!! And them paying for their own college...different world then, not the same now at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are there groups at the community college you can join to feel more apart of the school? You would also make some friends. What about forming a study group with some friends(ask some of the kids) in one of your classes. You could meet somewhere over coffee or whatever. You would help yourself with the class and form some new friendships(two perks!) The first year can be the worse and you are only into October! Its a big change and you are definately not alone with how you feel! __________________ Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live. Yes, sounds like you have too many expectations for yourself and should have started with the "basic" college courses instead of trying to skip them before you knew what they would be like. I was placed in a calc course right out of high school and said, "no way" and took the easiest math I could! After a semester or two you can still get on faster tracks if you want but it's harder to get on slower ones!
I think it is great you wanted to help your parents by going to community college for the first couple years; I don't think the basic courses will be cancelled in the 500; if I were you and you are feeling really lost and out of sorts I would withdraw if you can still and fall back and regroup your decision of what kind of school you want to go to and what you want to study, etc. I think you are putting too much pressure on yourself; I'd talk to your parents and discuss the situation; it sounds like community college is not the best for you. Remember: You are the right size, it's the pants that don't fit! All the schooling and expectations, etc. should be based on what you want for yourself, not what your parents want, your teachers, what your friends or siblings are doing or anything else. It's your life, no one else counts; the rest of us are just supporting players in your production. __________________ "Never give a sword to a man who can't dance." ~Confucius |

that is not fat. that is actually quite tiny.
secondly, have you considered ADHD or an undiagnoses LD? also, when you say that they referance other classes that you skipped, it is quite possible that you knew enough to test out of it on the standardized assessment, when in reality, you have some holes. that has happened to friends i know, and it makes things like math, language, and science really hard because those things are cumulative (build on one another). have u considered tutoring? __________________ Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass.
