I just increased a medication, and it's making things harder for my studies... I don't know what to do to increase focus, and reduce reading things twice, reduce forgetting what was just said, and increase focus while driving.
Does anyone know of ways too increase focus? Increase motivation to get things done? Any tips/tricks/coping skills would be much appreciated. |

May I ask what medication it is? I don't know what I'm taking that might be causing such problems (I take so many things), but I have the same struggles. As far as reading, I take notes as I read. And I write other things down that I need to remember. I also try to keep stuff in the same place, so I won't lose it. As far as driving, definitely don't add to your possible distractions by playing the radio, talking on the phone, etc. You might need to drive a bit more slowly. Also, maybe your pdoc will have some ideas. Let me know!

Personally I do better studying in a library, sitting at a desk without any distractions including music, tv, background conversation, and all that jazz. I think if you make yourself too comfortable by lounging, your body is more at rest and not alert so instead of seeing words you start to see "bla bla la la. And don't forget this step." <oops, what step> And as Payne said, actively taking notes is helpful. I'm not sure what you're studying, but jot down key terms and their definitions, draw diagrams or flowcharts if appropriate. You'll retain information longer if you physically write something down, which is why I'm glued to white wash boards.
I'm a class A procrastinator, but I will commit a whole day to studying if I have an exam within a 24 hour time period. I'm more productive under pressure. ![]() |
